A review of The Space Between the Seasons, by Justice Tilsher
March 15th, 2023 Back from our travels now, I wanted to change my focus and return to writing about communities, relationships, and experiences back home that inspire us and capture our attention. We are so grateful for everyone following the blog while we were away and hope you continue to enjoy it. Thank you, too, for your emails and perspectives. Please keep them coming! I am incredibly blessed by the company I have kept through the years. I feel as if God has brought many individuals into my life who have helped me find His will. After Drew and I were married and had the kiddos, those relationships have had an even more significant impact on our lives. We are blessed to include our friend Angela and her family on this list. When Drew and I first met Angela years ago through our mutual friend Conoly, we were blown away by her and her husband’s kindness and talent and that of their children. They were all so sweet, respectful, and creative. We will never forget the first time they visited our home and the impression they made on us. Fast forward seven years and Angela’s oldest son Justice, a lifelong homeschooler who graduated from high school just last year, has completed his first novel. I am fortunate to be a part of the launch team and was able to read the book before its release date. Bottom line - The Space Between the Seasons, by Justice Tilsher, is the best novel I have read in years. The Space Between the Seasons is a historical fiction romance novel based in 19th-century England. It is a tale of family, romance, adventure, and forgiveness. The main characters are two sisters, Autumn and Patience, who love each other dearly but have different dreams for the future. Patience receives a marriage proposal that threatens to upend Autumn’s plans, and the latter is determined to intervene before all is ruined. The Space Between the Seasons is Justice’s first novel. You would not believe that by reading it! He has a gift for story-telling and detail that brings you into the setting and makes you feel as if you know the characters personally. The fact that it is historical fiction is even more impressive, and as you read, you travel back to a different era and feel immersed in it – for me, craving the beauty of it. As I am usually a reader and listener to non-fiction, The Space Between the Seasons reminded me how important it is to seek out beautifully written stories – not just as an escape but as a treasure. As I told Justice, I laughed, cried, and related to many characters and themes in the novel. It flowed so well and kept my attention that I finished on the flight home before I knew it. Last year, Justice set a goal to write his first novel. Reaching that goal would be a massive accomplishment for any individual. But writing, editing, and publishing this excellent piece at such a young age and within a short period is nothing short of remarkable. After completing The Space Between the Seasons, I’m looking forward to Justice’s further works and am confident you will be too.
